Cristian David Moreno arrived in the rural area of Delicias in Sibaté 20 years ago, after alternating for a while between Bogotá and Sibaté. He currently resides in Sibaté.

A significant moment in Cristian’s life came when he had a unique teacher who helped him understand the value of community work. She made an impact on the community through projects like home gardens and composting, all done outside of her working hours. Despite the limited interaction between neighbors in the area, this teacher managed to bring them together through these initiatives. It was then that Cristian came to understand the importance of community work—an experience that strengthened his relationships and left a lasting mark on the person he is today.

The pandemic marked a crucial turning point for Cristian, which he describes as “the escape from what he had studied.” After finishing his culinary studies at SENA, he found the professional kitchen environment to be hostile. Though he loved cooking, he didn’t feel at ease in that space. At home, surrounded by men—his father, brother, uncle, cousin, and grandfather—he sought an escape from that environment, as his vision of life differed from that of his family circle. Dance became a space of harmony for him, a place where he could truly be himself.

The forest also became his safe haven. There, with his two best friends, he enjoyed long walks, scenic views, silence, and peace—far removed from the noise and typical activities of young people his age. This tranquility led him to get involved in camping, theater, and eventually in organizations that promote safe spaces and community dialogue for transforming the environment through a human and emotional lens.

When Cristian speaks about these experiences, his voice is calm and nurturing, helping build loving conversations. This has allowed him to propose initiatives in favor of the environment and society—shaping the essence of who he is today.
