Series – People of Sibaté: My Biggest Dream is to Become a Footballer

Author:XIMENA MARTINEZ MUÑOZ

This is the story of Stiven Aguirre Mejía, a 12-year-old boy from the municipality of Sibaté, whose greatest motivation right now is to become a footballer for Millonarios F.C.

Stiven, currently in the seventh grade at Romeral School, describes himself—despite his young age—as an innovative, fun, and curious person. This is largely thanks to the many self-development workshops he has attended with his mother, a young and entrepreneurial woman who has introduced him to the world of human rights, menstrual rights, territorial defense, and other social justice causes in the municipality of Sibaté. These experiences have shaped Stiven into a child who sees the world through the lens of empathy for all living beings, with a critical perspective on his environment—one that challenges him and helps him develop well-founded opinions.

“My biggest role model is Cristiano Ronaldo,” Stiven said when he shared his greatest dream: to become a professional footballer. He added that his admiration for Ronaldo also stems from seeing him as a businessman and a humble man who made his dream of playing on the world’s best pitches a reality.

Stiven is very versatile, having also practiced other sports like mountain biking and judo. His favorite subject is physical education because he loves staying active. In 2025, his goal is to join a new local football team to continue developing his skills.

Among the many activities he has participated in, one of his favorites has been being part of the choir at the Batuta Academy in Sibaté. “I love learning, being supportive, and asking questions. I enjoy playing, nature, sports, and the arts.”
