Jasmijn is cofounder and coördinator of Voz pa’Colombia, the first Voice4Thought Academy in Latin America.
She graduated in 2019 from the University of Antwerp with a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy and a minor in Spanish Language and Literature. She then obtained a master’s degree in Latin American Studies at Leiden University, focusing on the relationship between art and politics in Latin American societies. Her master’s thesis explored the literary representation of feminicide in Ciudad Juárez, northern Mexico.
Her interest in Latin America was sparked at a young age through family ties to Ecuador and close friendships within the Latin American community. At the age of 18, she traveled through Central America, from Panama to Mexico, where she learned Spanish and developed a deep connection with the local culture. These experiences strengthened her fascination for the region and her commitment to social justice, with a particular focus on women’s rights.
Currently she is dedicated to her work for VozPa’Colombia. This project aims to share alternative narratives from local communities in Colombia that rarely reach international media. The focus is on themes such as social inequality, violence, environmental awareness, women’s empowerment, music, and cultural identity. By weaving together stories from different Colombian communities, VozPa’Colombia creates bridges between women from diverse backgrounds and locations, and ultimately between continents.
For Jasmijn, Voice4Thought represents a symbiosis of research, art, and activism—values she seeks to embody in her own life.
