Series – Photovoice Sibaté: Main Square: Shelter for the People of Sibaté

Parque principal Sibaté

In March 2025 we began a Photovoice project in Sibaté, where disposable cameras were given to community members. For three months, they captured images of their surroundings and daily life. After development, the participants selected photos and collectively wrote stories about their community.

Daybreak…

At an old railway station, a tapestry of stones and tiles holds millions of stories, passing over this central point.

Some fractured parts recall the passage of time in this place—a circular fountain, a gathering center for culture, art, the environment, and work… a struggle for daily bread.

Thousands of voices, gazes, and words connect knowledge, weaving a timeline. Some in suits, others in boots and ruanas*, disappear into the fog each morning, embracing the day with different paths toward their daily tasks.

Resisting—the people of Sibaté—some tied to cement, others to the earth. A place that awaits the arrival of the nocturnal whisper, welcomed by the aroma of herbs in the pot and the sunset embracing the homecoming. Greetings here and there, coffee, empanadas—the signs that I am already home. The park receives us upon arrival.

And so, among the murmur of the wind that sways the palms and the echo of footsteps blending into silence, the park becomes a refuge of living memories. Every crack in the pavement, every burst of laughter rising among the coffee stalls, every shadow dancing under the afternoon sun, weaves a fragment of eternity into the everyday.

Here, where time halts between the comings and goings of dreams, Sibaté keeps its essence: a heartbeat of resistance, a place of shelter, and a nostalgia that endures beyond the fog.
